What if FSA?
The Filipino Student Association (FSA) is a vibrant and inclusive organization dedicated to celebrating Filipino culture, fostering community, and promoting collaboration among students. At its core, FSA provides a space for individuals to connect over shared heritage, learn about Filipino traditions, and build lifelong friendships. Each year, the University of Houston’s FSA boasts an impressive membership of around one thousand passionate students, making it one of the largest and most active FSAs in Texas.
What is Goodphil?
One of the most anticipated events for FSAs across the state is Goodphil, a grand annual competition that brings together Filipino student organizations from various universities. Goodphil showcases the competitive spirit and cultural pride of its participants through sports tournaments, cultural performances, and modern dance competitions. In the weeks leading up to the event, each organization creates a Hype Video — a cinematic and creative video that showcases their organization’s athletes, creating excitement anticipation for the competition to come.
How we made it.
This project spanned multiple shoot days and tightly scheduled time blocks across eight different teams, so pre-production was everything. We built a living timeline to coordinate athlete availability, secured locations, and tailored shot lists to each sport so everyone got their moment without sacrificing flow. To bridge teams seamlessly, we designed a system of transitions—match cuts, motion-tracked wipes, speed ramps, and masked whip-pans—so every handoff felt intentional, not stitched. Pacing was engineered from the start: quieter character beats up front, escalating set-pieces in the middle, and a final stretch that saved the heaviest-hitting visuals for last to keep the energy rising rather than plateauing. The result resonated: 20,000 organic views in the first three days and 39,000 (and counting) to date, with the video circulating widely across the college community.
